NeuroCom Balance Master Testing
Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Concussion Injury is a serious public health problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
TBI or concussion is a direct blow to the head, face, neck or elsewhere on the body with an 'impulsive' force transmitted to the head.
Those who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion such as athletes, children, or older adults should be tested for Physical, Cognitive, Emotional and Sleep disturbance immediately.
Typically the results of this direct blow creates a rapid onset of short-lived impairment of neurologic function that resolve spontaneously. Most concussions or traumatic blows resolve within 48 to 72 hours after the incident. Many of the direct blows do not involve loss of consciousness. With a concussion or TBI injury if symptoms last longer than 72 hours then it is time to seek medical care. Because imaging is not the answer with injuries to the head you need to find a certified concussion and TBI vestibular physical therapist. Such as LAPT has on staff.
At Lakeway Aquatic Physical Therapy we utilize the computerized NeuroCom Balance master for specialized balance and vestibular testing of all TBI and concussion patients. This dynamic posturography test is just one of the ways LAPT performs a comprehensive testing procedure to give a specific diagnosis which speeds recovery.
If you or your athlete is experiencing any physical, cognitive, emotional or sleep issues 3 days post a concussion and have failed the ImPACT test or the BESS test.
